Dior SS23: Visual Literacy
February 2023
As part of my university coursework, I took on the role of creative director, stylist and logistics coordinator for a visually captivating photoshoot inspired by Dior's SS23 collection.
This project delved into the compelling narrative of Catherine De Medici, a powerful figure in French history, aligning with the overarching theme of Dior's campaign. Titled "Modern Renaissance," the photoshoot, set in the grand parlours of the French Court, aimed to encapsulate feminine power and rebellion. Three models, portraying members of Catherine's intriguing "flying squadron," whispered secrets and seduction while draped in fashions reminiscent of their Queen.
The visuals employed the Chiaroscuro technique of Early-Renaissance painters and drew inspiration from the surreal, romantic imagery of Elina Kechicheva, utilising strong lighting, contrasts, and historical motifs to narrate the campaign's compelling story.
Generating the shoot concept, securing a location, finding models and collaborating with a photographer & makeup artist to bring my vision to life was greatly rewarding and influenced my decision to further explore artistic direction as a future career option.
